• Maximum sill height above floor: 44 in, with a ladder or steps at least 12” wide and 3” from the window well side if the well is deeper than 44″
• Outside floor area in the window well of 9 sq. ft. with a minimum dimension of 36” x 36”              
• 48” inches between the top of the window well and the bottom of the deck or porch joists.
• The window can have bars, grills, or grates, but they must be operational from the inside without keys or tools.

If you already have a basement window, the opening can be enlarged by cutting the concrete and digging out a well. If you don’t, you will need to have a window well dug, concrete cut, and a window installed.
